Farm workers harvesting pinot noir at J.K. Carriere, are paid per 5 gallon bucket of grapes picked – a common practice that rewards speed. Workers are given a red ticket for each bucket and then paid at the end of the day. This year’s harvest was compacted and crews were in high demand.
